170 athletes aged
between 6 and 16 years competed in this year’s National Karate
Championships held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th
November at National Sports School, Pembroke.
During 2019, we
focused on various technical aspects with the aim of improving the
overall level of Karate in Malta, reaping the benefits in the various
international competitions attended. Team Malta placed third in the
Small States of Europe Karate Championship held in Iceland, with a
record of nine gold medals. Effective performance for Team Malta was
also present in championships held in England, Italy and Poland. It
was a year full of events with eight training seminars organized,
hosting international Coaches, Maestro Santo Torre from Italy and
Sensei Chris Denwood from the UK amongst others.
‘The hard work and dedication of
the technical members as well as that of the athletes is proving to
be a major achievement. I wish to thank all the members of The Malta
Karate Federation since without their relentless determination and
full cooperation, these results would have not been achieved.’
This was the comment of the Technical Director of the Malta Karate
Federation, Sensei Jesmond Schembri.
